If the students think they like Pinewood’s pajamas or sweatshirts, this new merchandise will blow their minds: hitting the shelves April 1 is Pinewood’s new perfume line!
Holly Phillips founded this startup with strong passion.
“These kids are mad stinky, yo,” Phillips said. “Like, I genuinely don’t know how they became so smelly. I am ashamed to have students with such a negative aura.”
However, the desire to fix the putrid smell of the boys’ locker room was not the only impetus to venture into the world of perfumery.
“I think another thing that inspired me was just my true love for artistry,” Phillips said. “I love expressing myself through smells.”
When Phillips originally came up with this idea, she rushed over to the chemistry room. She was brainstorming ingredient combinations and had a feeling co-founder Sarah Prestwood could help her. Prestwood thought the whole idea of a perfume line was brilliant, and suggested some chemicals that would make good ingredients.
“I thought some H2S and NH3 would do the trick,” Prestwood said.
Despite their coworking, Prestwood came to admire a completely different part of perfume production than Phillips.
“I’m not sure about the smelling good part, but I think it’ll make for a great subject in my chemistry class,” Prestwood said. “We can analyze students’ physical reactions to the perfume’s odors.”
Their first perfume, “Evergreen,” includes some of Phillips’ favorite scents, like pumpkin and cinnamon, which create a cozy, autumny aroma. It also includes a sprinkle of pine needles for panther spirit.
As a little reward, all employees were given a free perfume bottle. With just one spritz, Publicity Manager Andrea Sanchez knew that “Evergreen” was set up for great success.
“I mean, gosh dang that perfume smells handsome,” Sanchez said.
Their second perfume was more catered to the student body’s liking. The name is “One Fir All,” inspired by the trending 4-in-1 product. The perfume, or rather concoction, contains Hot Cheeto dust, burnt chocolate chip cookies, watered-down hot chocolate, instant pho noodle flavoring, and a bit of Dark Temptation Axe Body Spray.
A few sample bottles of “One Fir All” were given out to students for beta feedback.
Freshman Miles Callahan has tremendous feelings about the perfume.
“‘One Fir All’ makes me feel very petite and dainty,” Callahan said. “The Red 40 from the Hot Cheetos really adds a lovely essence. I used to be a hardcore Axe Body Spray user, but I’m now a changed man.”
