This year brings 15 new clubs to the growing list available to join. Here are just a few.
Co-ed Volleyball
Led by sophomore Sean Sirhan, junior Jerry Yan, and junior Mailey Wang, the Co-ed Volleyball club helps students not only learn the rules and play style of volleyball, but also participate in scrimmages that highlight strategy, giving a more technical approach to the game.
“We will try to give people who play volleyball in the off-season a place to continue playing and introduce the newer people to the basics,” Sirhan said.
Pinewood Law Club
The Pinewood Law Club, led by sophomore Riya Srivastava, focuses on the development of critical thinking, debate, and public speaking skills. Members engage in mock trials, legal discussions, and guest lectures to gain a deeper understanding of the judicial system.
Current News Club
Seventh grader Jacob Li leads the Current News Club with the help of advisor and French teacher Stephanie Gervais. This club focuses on talking about the latest news stories, ranging from local events to international affairs.
Martial Arts Club
The Martial Arts Club, led by junior Ryan Chou, dives into the multiple forms of martial arts, including Taekwondo, karate, and Shaolin kung fu. Members also learn fundamental techniques such as punches, kicks, blocks, and self-defense moves.
Artify
Artify, led by juniors Sophia Lee, Marie Redondo, Malaika Boros, and Aretha Liu, is a creative club where students explore various art forms through hands-on projects like painting and drawing.
Astronomy Unplugged
Astronomy Unplugged, led by sophomores Sophie Saibi and Elizabeth Liang, discusses the undiscovered parts of space with a focus on astronomy.
Clothing Design
Led by juniors Riya Kolappa and Avery Hall, Clothing Design is a space for students to explore fashion by creating and designing their own clothing. Members learn how clothing is manufactured and how they can bring their unique styles to life.
Sports Statistics Club
The Sports Statistics Club, led by sophomore Camila Shtrom, focuses on making statistics more applicable by analyzing sports data and using data to predict the outcome of a game.
“I want people to understand that math and sports can be related,” Shtrom said.
Band Club
Band Club, led by freshmen Davin Ternus and Ruhan and Kabir Chhaparwal, is a place for music enthusiasts to play instruments and enjoy music together.
Pop Culture Dance Club
The Pop Culture Dance Club, led by sophomore Jaime Lee, is a club centered on learning and practicing popular dance moves from current trends in music and social media. Students work on choreography and practice dance routines in their time together.
Climbing Club
The Climbing Club, led by sophomore Ryan Gustavson, is for students interested in bouldering and rock climbing, offering a space to practice skills and participate in group climbing sessions.
Culinary Collective
The Culinary Collective, led by Kyle Ma, Trevor Chin, and Jacob Young, is a club for anyone who enjoys cooking but is concentrated on teaching students the basics of cooking to prepare them for college.
“We want to show everyone that clubs would bring Pinewood together as a community, and help us find out who we are,” Ma said.
