Every spring, the Pinewood community bids a bittersweet farewell to several of the beloved faculty. This feeling is balanced by the warm welcome of new faculty. This year, Pinewood welcomes five new faculty members.
Christopher Jackson is the new head coach of the varsity boys basketball team and the new Upper Campus physical education teacher. Jackson looks forward to developing the boys basketball program both for the players and for the Pinewood community.
“We’re going to play really hard, and we’re gonna be great teammates and be good kids on and off the court,” Jackson said. “And I think that will translate to building excitement about our team.”
Maulshree Goyal is the new high school computer science teacher. This year, she looks forward to expanding and improving upon the material taught in the department.
“I would love to make our computer science more enriching,” Goyal said. “I think we can add more things like artificial intelligence [and] some courses related to Java so that kids can have more opportunities within the institute.”
Gregory Brazil is an eighth and 10th grade history teacher as well as an assistant coach on the varsity football team.
“I actually coached against Pinewood last year in football and fell in love with the campus and everybody on the campus,” Brazil said.
Courtney Spence is a new Pinewood math teacher. He was initially drawn to Pinewood because of its unique founding story and how there’s a strong family dynamic on campus.
“I’ve heard a lot about how students feel like they’re part of the family and so do faculty,” Spence said.
On top of teaching, he coaches the Middle Campus flag football team and enjoys seeing how Pinewood’s campuses interact with one another.
“Getting to know how the campuses relate and how kids transfer from campus to campus has been awesome,” Spence said.
Finally, the college counseling department welcomes Alyson Tom as the new Director of College Counseling and Academic Advising at Upper Campus. She looks forward to expanding and further developing the current college counseling and academic advising programs for all students.
“Change is not fast,” Tom said. “I believe in incremental change and making sure it’s the right fit for wherever the change is happening. I think I’m looking forward to a few years down the line seeing where things are.”
